Summer Travel With Little Ones

Summer Travel With Young Children – can be stressful. When planning a trip, let your children help with the planning & prep.

Here are a few tips based on age groups…

Toddlers (up to 3) – let them choose a couple of favorite t-shirts & pairs of socks to pack, or a

few snacks they would like for the car & perhaps their favorite stuffy for cuddling.

3-4 year olds – Let them select a couple of car-friendly toys along with choosing one of the

activities they’d like to do while on vacation. Give them a disposable cameral to take pictures of

things they see along the way.

Pre-K  thru elementary – Let the kids in on the planning process. Have them do a little research on what adventures, activities or historical sites are in the area or on the way to your destination. Then, let them teach YOU when you get there. We did this on a cross country trip with our kids who were 8, 10 & 15. We learned a lot.

General tips:

Traveling by car? Have small “gifts” to pass out each time you cross a state line.

Play eye spy, count hydrants or flags & be prepared for lots of pit stops with opportunities to blow off steam.

Happy Traveling,
